Olympus' iHS technology is found in this new model, the Olympus TG-820 allowing decent pictures in even low lighting conditions. Image stabilisation, HDR and a 3D shooting mode round off the specs nicely, and your snaps and videos can be played back on the big screen, courtesy of an HDMI-out port.
The Olympus TG-820 features a 12 million pixel backlit CMOS sensor and TruePic VI image processor which was originally developed for DSLR cameras. Olympus claims this helps to improve low-light performance, speed up camera response and enhance scene recognition. It is waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof.
The TG-820 is the toughest of the duo, waterproof down to 10 metres, shockproof from 2 metres and freezeproof to -10 degrees. It can also withstand force up to 100kg. Images and movies are stored on Secure Digital cards, including the higher-capacity SDHC and SDXC types. Power comes from a proprietary LI-50B lithium ion rechargeable battery pack. Connectivity options include USB data, HDMI Type-D high-def and composite standard-def video outputs, and a DC power input.
